Two dead in separate Suffolk County crashes

SUFFOLK COUNTY - Police are investigating a two-car crash that killed a woman in Middle Island this evening Thursday evening

Traci Gillow, 51, was southbound on Middle Island-Yaphank Road and apparently veered into the northbound lane south of Whiskey Road in Middle Island and struck a car operated by Patricia Moon.  Gillow’s car caught on fire shortly after the crash and was extinguished by Middle Island Fire Department.

Moon, 51, of Rocky Point, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Gillow, 49, of Sound Beach, was also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Also Thursday evening, a crash killed a motorcyclist in Mastic Beach.

Thomas Smith southbound on a motorcycle on Longfellow Drive when he struck a car backing into his driveway at 6:55 p.m.  As a result of the crash, Smith was thrown from the motorcycle.

Smith, 25, of 190 McKinley Drive, Mastic Beach, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.  The driver ofo the car was not injured.
