School bus driver charged with vehicular assault

PORT JERVIS – State Police have arrested a Port Jervis woman following an investigation into a serious personal injury accident involving a school bus that occurred on February 14.

That afternoon, Caitlin Railo, 31, was driving a school bus on Route 209 in Huguenot and struck a car while attempting to make a left turn on to Peenpack Trail, troopers said. The driver of the car, Justin Maher, 19, of Goddefroy, who was driving in the other direction, was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition with head injuries.

The bus is owned by Quality Bus Service of Sparrowbush and was traveling from the New Life Christian School in Matamoras, Pennsylvania.

Railo was arrested on Thursday, April 11 and charged with felony vehicular assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and driving while ability impaired by drugs, both misdemeanors.  She was arraigned and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
