Man killed in two-car crash on LIE

DIX HILLS - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a two-car crash that killed a North Babylon man on the Long Island Expressway early this morning.

A pickup truck, driven by Joseph Pritchard, was stopped, for an unknown reason, in the westbound right lane of the LIE at 2:23 a.m. when it was struck from behind by a box truck, owned by Barakat Trucking and driven by Eduardo Garcia. Both vehicles caught fire following the impact.

Pritchard, 30, of North Babylon, was pronounced dead at the scene. Garcia, 34, of the Bronx, was transported by Dix Hills Fire Department Rescue to Huntington Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
