Teen suffers alcohol poisoning; adult couple arrested

SAYVILLE - Suffolk County Police today arrested a husband and wife after a teen became ill from alcohol poisoning at a party held at the couple’s home in Sayville.

Officers responded to 81 Old Broadway after a 911 caller reported that a 16-year-old female guest became sick from alcohol poisoning at 1:33 a.m.  When officers arrived they discovered evidence of a beer drinking game, shot glasses and observed more than 25 underage teens gathered in an apartment which is separate from the home.  Some of the teens were visibly intoxicated and witnesses stated that large quantities of vodka had been consumed.  The couple’s 16-year-old daughter had invited friends to the home after a banquet held at St. Anthony’s High School located in Melville.  Through word of mouth, additional teens who did not know any of the residents also showed up at the party.

John Butler, 54, and Stacie Butler, 54, both of 81 Old Broadway, Sayville, were arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.  Both were released after posting bail and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
