Coast Guard suspends search for missing person in the water near Coney Island |

NEW YORK - The Coast Guard suspended their search Sunday morning for a possible missing male who entered the water near 33rd St., and board walk in Coney Island Saturday at 6:30 p.m., pending any further developments. The Coast Guard received a call from NYPD reporting that a male dressed in black walked into the water, began swimming, went under water and did not resurface. The NYPD launched marine, aviation, land units and divers to search the area. FDNY also launched marine units to assist in the search. The Coast Guard launched two rescue boats from Station New York, in Staten Island, and a rescue helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City, NJ. The Coast Guard, NYPD and FDNY searched for 16 hours covering a 52-square mile area with no results. |
