Investigation into shooting death of suspect by police continues

NORTH HUDSON - The investigation into the shooting death of Richard Aubin after a violent struggle in which he grabbed a State Trooper's firearm on March 5, is continuing. An autopsy conducted by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica determined that the cause of death was the result of three gunshot wounds.
The shooting occurred as Aubin fought with Troopers Marcia Pooler and Leston Sheeley who were trying to apprehend him following a pursuit.  Pepper spray was used during the encounter but was not effective.

The suspect then grabbed Trooper Pooler's Division issued sidearm which led to Trooper Sheeley discharging his firearm, striking and killing the suspect at the scene. A total of three shots were discharged by Trooper Sheeley during the struggle with Aubin.

The results of additional forensic examination and analysis are pending.
