NRC gives Indian Point good grades for performance in 2012

BUCHANAN – Nuclear Regulatory Commission performance inspections at the Indian Point nuclear power plants in 2012 determined that overall, the plants “operated in a manner that preserved public health and safety and met all cornerstone objectives.” The announcement came in a letter to Entergy from Arthur Burritt, regional NRC branch chief.

Burritt also said the performance of the power plant during the most recent quarter was “within the normal, expected range.”

He also informed Entergy the NRC will conduct routine baseline inspections as well as those relating to operation of an independent spent fuel storage installation and a review of the implementation of the industry initiative to control degradation of underground piping and tanks.

The NRC has also scheduled a review of Entergy’s proposed commitments made during the license renewal application program regarding Indian Point unit 2. That will include a review of aging management program implementation.
