TOWN OF WALTON -  State Police at Oneonta were requested to investigate a suspicious fire at 294 John Lockwood Road in the Town of Walton, Delaware County on Wednesday. While the officers were present, two apparent gunshots were heard from inside the residence. The officers made entry into the residence and located a deceased female on the second floor. At the same time, the residence appeared to be already on fire and the officers exited the residence due to the rapidly engulfing flames.

After the fire was extinguished, Investigators located a single set of human remains in the debris. The scene was secured overnight and the investigation continued this date. A second set of human remains was located in the basement of the residence.

At this time, one set of human remains has been identified as Debra Sundstrom, 48, of1884 S. River Rd. Walton NY, with the manner of death being suicide and cause of death being a gunshot to the head.

Identification of the second set of human remains, as well as manner and cause of death is pending.

The cause of fire has been ruled an Arson.
