Corrections officer charged with rape for having sex with an inmate

FISHKILL – A female corrections officer who worked at the Downstate Correctional Facility in the Town of Fishkill for 7 ½ years, was arrested and charged with rape and official misconduct for allegedly having sex with a male inmate at the prison since 2010.  It is unlawful for a prison inmate to give consent to have sex in New York State.

Officer Tyshinia Love Brewster, 39, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested at her house.

It is also alleged that as a result of the relationship, Brewster is approximately six months pregnant with the inmate’s unborn child.

A joint investigation by the State Police and the Inspector General’s Office of the State Department of Correctional Services alleged that the two would have sex during her shift assignments at the prison on the cell block on which the inmate was housed.

Brewster was arraigned in Fishkill Town Court and released on her own recognizance. She is also facing disciplinary charges out of the Inspector General’s Office.
