Arrest in fatal motor vehicle accident

BRENTWOOD - State Police arrested Yunior Josue Bonilla, 25, of Brentwood, and charged him with driving while intoxicated after he lost control of a car he was operating, at a high rate of speed, on the Northern State Parkway Town of Huntington, causing the death of a passenger.   Other charges are pending further investigation.

The initial investigation revealed that Bonilla and three other passengers had left a night club in Westbury after it closed, got into the vehicle and were heading to Brentwood when the accident occurred.

The front seat passenger, Gabriel Herrera-Mina, 26, of Brentwood, who was not wearing his seat belt, was critically injured and transported to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two other passengers, also from Brentwood, were treated for minor injuries and released.

Witnesses stated that Bonilla had been observed drinking at the night club prior to driving the car. As a result of this accident investigation the Northern State Parkway eastbound was closed to traffic for over six hours.
Anyone who may have witnessed this accident is urged to contact the New York State Police at 631 756-3300 or 631 231-6389. All calls will be confidential.
