HEMPSTEAD - Homicide Squad detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead man for a homicide that occurred on Thursday, February 7, at 1:33 pm in Hempstead.

The Hempstead Police Department responds to a call for a domestic disturbance at 25 Roosevelt Street. Upon arrival at scene officers enter the residence and are met by Leonard Reed, 45, of that address, who opens gunfire on them. Officers return gunfire and strike Reed, incapacitating him and place him under arrest. Reed is taken to a local hospital where he is admitted for treatment of non-life threatening gunshots wounds. No officers were struck as a result of Reeds gunfire.

Upon further investigation of the scene, officers find the body of a 42 year old female victim, with multiple gunshot and stab wounds, deceased on the kitchen floor. The female victims name is being withheld pending family notification.

Also inside the residence was a 26 year old female victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to a local hospital and was also admitted for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot injury.

Reed is charged with Murder 2nd Degree and will be arraigned as soon as practical.
