Poughkeepsie man indicted for stabbing Newburgh city cop, two others

GOSHEN – An Orange County grand jury has indicted a Poughkeepsie man in connection with a knife attack on three men in Newburgh including a City of Newburgh police officer.

Larry Gantt, Jr., 35, was arrested by Newburgh Police on November 3 and is in the Orange County Jail without bail.

The 14 count indictment charges Gantt with attempted murder, assault and attempted assault, aggravated assault and attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, and other counts, all involved in the stabbing of Officer Eric Henderson. Gantt is also charged with separate counts of assault for allegedly stabbing Demetrius Ware and Adrian Hargrove.

It is alleged that on November 3, 2012 in Newburgh, Gantt was involved in a fight during which he stabbed both Hargrove and Ware.

Henderson and other officers arrived and, while attempting to place Gantt under arrest, Officer Henderson was stabbed by Gantt.

All three victims have since recovered from their injuries.
