PITTSFORD - Deputies responded to the area of East Avenue and Kilbourn Road in the Town of Pittsford, Monday evening, for a man down on the side of the road not moving.  Vaughn Steele, 26, of Penfield was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Around 9:45 PM, an individual called 9-1-1 and told the operator that he was the driver that struck the victim on East Avenue earlier in the evening.  He stated he would wait at his residence for deputies to arrive. The unidentified driver told Investigators that he hit what he believed to be a garbage can.

This is an active investigation. No charges have been filed as of late Tuesday morning.
