Squatter dies in fire at vacant home |

CENTRAL ISLIP - Suffolk County Police are investigating a fire that killed a squatter in a vacant home in Central Islip this morning. A passing motorist called 911 at 5:05 a.m. to report a fire at 23 Sycamore St. Third Precinct officers and firefighters from the Central Islip Fire Department responded, however, were unable to enter the home due to intense fire and smoke conditions. When the fire was extinguished, the body of a man was found in the basement. The man’s identity is being withheld pending positive identification by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. There was no electricity in the home at the time of the fire. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392. |
