USMA welcomes new commandant

WEST POINT – Brig. Gen. Richard Clarke became the 74th commandant of cadets on Friday when he assumed the command from Brig. Gen. Theodore Martin.

Martin will become the commanding general of the National Training Center and Fort Irwin, at Fort Irwin, California.

Clark is a 1984 graduate of West Point. His military education includes Infantry Officer Basic Course, the US Army Command and General Staff College and the National War College. 

Clarke has commanded at every level from company through brigade.  Other assignments include Long Range Surveillance Detachment, 101st Airborne (Assault), Fort Campbell, KY; Ranger Reconnaissance Detachment, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga.; 3d Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.; and 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga.

Clarke most recently served as the deputy commanding general (operations), 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, NY.
