Death in fire ruled a homicide

PORT JERVIS – The death of a woman whose body was found inside a burning house in the Orange County city of Port Jervis has been ruled a homicide.

At About 10:48am on January 15th, police responded to a reported structure fire located at 8 Mountain Avenue.   Once inside, police and fire personnel discovered the body of Tyrochelle Haughton, 35.  Haughton resided at that address.

Outside the house, a 38 year old male was found with burn injuries.  He was immediately provided emergency aid by first responders and transported to Bon Secours Community Hospital for emergency care.   Police have not released his name.

An autopsy was performed on Haughton on January 16, by the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office.  The death has been officially ruled a homicide.

The Port Jervis City Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident with the assistance of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the New York State Police, the Orange County Fire Investigations Unit and the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Because the investigation is now a homicide, police are releasing no further information at this time.
