PORT JERVIS – Authorities are investigating a fire in Port Jervis late Tuesday morning that killed one person and injured another.  The fire in a single-family residence at 8 Mountain Avenue was called in at 10:48 a.m.

Inside the home, police and firefighters discovered the body of a middle age woman.  Outside the house police found a 38-year-old man with burns. He was taken to Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis.

The fire and surrounding circumstances are under investigation. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and State Police Crime Scene Unit are assisting city police with the investigation.

The fire was brought under control by the Port Jervis Fire Department. The building sustained major damage.
