POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie is ending the year in a violent note as a 17-year-old youth was shot and killed early Sunday morning.

Police were called to 364 Main Street, at 12:48 a.m. for a report of a man shot. A short time later, a taxi arrived at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with a youth who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police are withholding the name of the victim, a Poughkeepsie resident, pending notification of relatives.

Detectives said the shooting was not a random act and took place in front of several people.  Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 845-451-7577.
