Two pedestrians killed in one Long Island community |

HICKSVILLE – Two pedestrians are dead after being struck by vehicles, less than 24 hours apart, in Hicksville. The first accident happened on on Friday December 7, 4:40 pm. According to detectives, a 70-year-old female driver entered a driveway that led to the rear parking lot of Our Lady of Mercy Church located at 500 South Oyster Bay Road when she struck Rose Tantillo, 84, of Melville who was crossing from north to south. The second accident happened on Saturday, December 8, at 6:00 P.M. A 53-year-old male was southbound in the left lane of Newbridge Road in the vicinity of Elmira Street when he struck Leema Karnati, 48 of Hicksville. The victim was crossing from east to west without a traffic signal or crosswalk. She was removed to an area hospital where she died. Detectives report no apparent criminality in either accident, at this time. The investigations are ongoing. |
