23 arrested in major Ulster County drug bust

ELLENVILLE – Police in Ulster County culminated a 13 month investigation into drug trafficking in the southwestern part of the county with the arrests of 23 people.

Ellenville Police Chief Phillip Mattracion and Sheriff Paul Van Blarcum announced the arrests made in conjunction with the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team, the Ulster District Attorney’s Office and other area law enforcement agencies, executed search warrants in Ellenville and Wawarsing and arrested 23 people.

Mattracion said the investigation was a major joint effort.

“One of the benefits of having a local police agency is that we do come in contact with a lot of information, street level information, that is out there that is given to us on a daily basis, and when we come into that information we certainly work with our partners, especially the URGENT Task Force and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office,” Mattracion said.

Police seized heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, diverted pharmaceuticals and marijuana during the raids.
