Deadly weekend on the roads in Hudson Valley town

MARLBORO – Two fatal traffic accidents happened a day apart in the Ulster County hamlet of Marlboro.

A Marlboro man was killed Sunday morning when the car he was driving south on Route 9W in Marlboro was struck by a northbound car that crossed into the other lane of traffic.

This was the second fatality over the weekend in Marlboro. Early Saturday morning, Sarah Smith, 16, was killed when the SUV she was riding in struck a utility police on Western Avenue.

In the Sunday accident, State Police said a car operated by Eugene Antwi, 26, of Brooklyn, was northbound at 7:44 a.m. when it entered into the southbound lane and struck a car driven by Donald Dawson of Marlboro. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Antwi and three other passengers, all from the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area, were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
