HALFMOON - State Police in Clifton Park investigated a double-fatal accident occurring on Interstate 87 in the Town of Halfmoon 1 mile north of the twin bridges, late Saturday evening.
 
The reconstruction of the accident scene as well as witness accounts reveal that a car operated by Dennis Drue, 22, of Clifton Park, was operating at a high rate of speed moving from the far left lane (passing lane) into the far right lane (driving lane).  Drue subsequently made contact with the rear of an SUV also traveling in the driving lane. This action caused both vehicles to leave the road.
 
The driver of the SUV, Christopher Stewart, of Clifton Park and a passenger, Deanna Rivers, 17, also of Clifton Park died at the scene. The two other passengers in Mr. Stewart’s vehicle, Bailey Wind, 17 of Latham and Matthew Hardy, 17 of Clifton Park were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
 
The on-going investigation has revealed that there was no apparent culpability on the part of Christopher Stewart.

A breath screening test administered at the scene revealed a positive presence for alcohol in Drue’s system at the time of the accident. Toxicology results are pending.  Drue received medical treatment at Ellis Hospital for head injuries and was released.

Criminal charges up to and including Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd are possible pending the toxicology results and communication between the New York State Police and the Saratoga County District Attorney’s office.
