Suspect charged in murder of cop, second person

HEMPSTEAD - Defendant Darrell Fuller is charged with two counts of murder 1st degree, robbery 1st degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree and one count of criminal possession of a weapon 3rd degree.  He was arraigned in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead. 

The charges stem from the murder of Nassau County Police Department officer Arthur Lopez, an eight year veteran of the force.

According to Detectives, on October 23, at 11:04 am, Officer Lopez an Emergency Services Police Officer and his partner affected a vehicle stop on 241st Street at Jericho Turnpike.  Defendant Darrell S. Fuller, 33, of 189 02 Liberty Avenue St. Albans shot Officer Lopez as he approached the vehicle and then fled the scene.  The defendant fled southbound on the Cross Island Expressway, Bellerose and at 11:06am approached and shot Raymond Facey, 51, while he was sitting in his vehicle in the shoulder lane.  He then stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.
