Officers save teen from overdose

EAST MORICHES - Suffolk County Police officers saved a teen who overdosed on drugs by using an intranasal medication in East Moriches Saturday afternoon.

Seventh Precinct Police Officers responded to a home on Benjamin Avenue at 1:30 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a teen was barely breathing in a driveway after apparently overdosing. When officers arrived, they found the 18-year-old male unconscious. Officer Caroline Ervolina, assisted by other Seventh Precinct Officers, revived the victim by administering intranasal Narcan.

The teen was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead by the East Moriches Community Ambulance.

The Suffolk County Police Department recently began participating in a New York State Department of Health pilot program involving the deployment of intranasal Narcan. Currently, the Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Precincts and Marine Bureau are participating in this program.
