Two bodies recovered from plane that went down off Long Island

BROOKHAVEN - The small plane that went down in Moriches Inlet has been pulled out of the water. The bodies of two male victims, Cyril Mclavin, 51, of 61-19 190th St., Fresh Meadows, and Andrew Messana, 72, 12-23 Diane Place, Bayside, were recovered from the plane. They were be taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The plane will be transported to the Impound Unit.

Witnesses on the beach heard the sputtering of an engine of a small plane, and watched a small plane crash into the Moriches Inlet at 3:06 Saturday afternoon.   Good Samaritans on a nearby boat were the first to arrive on scene, and attempted to keep the plane above water by tying a rope to the plane, but the plane eventually sank, approximately 30 feet below.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Marine Bureau at 631-854-8382.
