UTICA - An investigation by the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Utica resulted in the arrests of two subjects yesterday, as well as the seizure of over sixty guns and a large amount of ammunition from a residence in the Town of Sullivan, in northern Madison County.

On Wednesday, October 17, search warrants were executed by investigators and troopers at 7800 Black Creek Road, Kirkville, NY.  Seized as a result were (5) handguns, over (60) other assorted rifles, shotguns, and black powder rifles, and a large cache of ammunition.

Edward L. Atkins Jr., 55, of 7800 Black Creek Road, Kirkville, NY, was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C felony, for possessing five or more firearms, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a class A misdemeanor, for possessing a rifle and having previously been convicted of a felony or serious offense. He was processed at the Sullivan State Police Station, arraigned before the Town of Sullivan Court, and remanded to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bail bond.

Dawn M. Moyer, 39, of 106 Harrington Street, Mattydale, NY, was also arrested and charged with Hindering Prosecution in the Second Degree, a class E felony, for removing evidence from the 7800 Black Creek Road residence. She was processed and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Sullivan Court on October 23, 2012, at 4:30 PM.
