Parents of college student shot by police file second federal lawsuit |
|||||
WHITE PLAINS – The parents of Danroy Henry, Jr., the 20-year-old Pace University student who was shot to death by local police in a Thornwood shopping center parking lot, have filed a second federal lawsuit alleging wrongful death of their son. The first lawsuit, filed last year, was filed against Pleasantville Police Officer Aaron Hess, who fired the fatal shots at Henry as he was driving away from a fire lane at the parking lot as instructed by other officers. The new suit is against the other officers involved, who allegedly did nothing to save Henry and provide emergency care after he was shot. He was alive and conscious when removed from the car, the family’s attorney, Michael Sussman said on Wednesday. The attorney is asking the court to join the two cases together and seek relief for the parents. “What they are seeking is justice; what they are seeking is accountability; what they are seeking is clarity as to the role of each person in no hiding,” he said. Sussman said he has asked the US Justice Department to examine the incident and the agency is doing that. “There are obstruction of justice charges here, there are falsification of official documents charges here, as well as there are murder charges here; all of them are relevant, all of them should be pursued and I think that’s what the Henrys, after two years, are seeking,” he said. In the first lawsuit filed, the family is seeking $120 million compensatory damages |
