State Police searching for suspects in attempted child abductions |

BATH/BALDWIN - Two apparent child abductions are under investigation in different parts of the state. The incidents are not connected. State Police in Bath were called to a report of an unknown male wearing a baseball style cap that illegally entered an unlocked home on East Main Street in the Village of Canisteo. The incident happened on Sunday, October 7, at approximately 3:30 AM. The subject entered an upstairs bedroom where a 10 year old girl was sleeping and removed her from her bed. The perpetrator then proceeded to carry the child down the stairs to an exterior door, but for an unknown reason, exited the residence without the child. The child was unharmed. The State Police are continuing the investigation and are requesting anyone with information regarding this case to call the Bath State Police at 607-776-6866. The other incident occurred in Baldwin on Long Island, at 8:20 Monday morning. According to detectives, an eleven year old female was approached by an unknown male Hispanic or possibly Black subject in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Clinton Place. The subject attempted to persuade the victim to accompany him. The subject is described to be about 35 to 40 years old, with bushy eye brows, a birthmark or mole next to his right eye and hair on his chin. He was operating a white colored van with damage to the passenger side door and was last observed northbound on Central Avenue.
