Two charged in murder of Peekskill man

PEEKSKILL – The investigation into the murder of Terrance Camper, 53 of Peekskill, that occurred on Wednesday, October 31 at about 1:30 on Pine Street, Peekskill NY has resulted in the arrest of two people in connection with this crime.

Police say irrefutable facts that were disclosed to investigators during the intensive investigation that followed were the basis for alleging that Beatrice Camper, 60, the victim’s wife and John Murray, 60, who was residing in Newburgh conspired to, and carried out the murder the victim. In furtherance of this plan, Murray allegedly lured Terrance to Pine Street ostensibly to use his services as a cab and upon his arrival, shot him two times in the base of his skull with a small caliber hand gun. Murray was on parole at the time of his arrest and had served over 30 years in state prison after being convicted of murder, robberies and other crimes. He was released from prison 11 months ago.

It was determined that Beatrice Camper and Murray had been involved in an intimate relationship that spanned for over one year and began while he was in prison.

The motives for this crime were appear to have been driven by greed and selfishness. In the months

Preceding this crime, Beatrice Camper had taken out two insurance policies on her husband which listed her as the beneficiary. It is further alleged that Beatrice and Murray than planned to be together after Terrance's death and share hIs insurance benefit.

Both defendants were scheduled for arraignment on second degree murder charges Friday afternoon.
