NRC evaluating claims in Indian Point security officer’s lawsuit against plant owner Entergy

BUCHANAN – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is evaluating, through its appropriate processes, all of the issues raised in an Indian Point security officer’s lawsuit against plant operator Entergy.

Officer Clifton Travis, Jr. maintains the plant is unsecure as employees often play computer games and sleep on the job.

All of the issues in the lawsuit that could affect plant security and safety are being examined by the federal agency. “The NRC will not hesitate to take regulatory action if any challenges to site security or plant safety are identified,” said spokesman Neil Sheehan.

The NRC confirmed that the security officer previously made the federal agency aware of some of the issues. “For those issues, the NRC placed the individual’s concerns in the appropriate regulatory process to ensure if any challenge to site security or plant security was identified, the issue was promptly addressed by the plant’s owner,” Sheehan said Friday.

“Indian Point has spent more than $100 million since 9/11 enhancing every aspect of security and consistently is evaluated a safe plant by the NRC and independent experts. To the extent that any complaints have a basis in fact we will look into them, however it is clear that there are many issues raised by Mr. Travis that are entirely false,” according to a statement from Entergy
