UTICA - The Oneida County Child Advocacy Center reports that a Utica man was arrested on Saturday, September 7, and charged in relation to a sex assault that occurred in Utica during the overnight hours between August 30 and August 31, 2012.

Darren Smith, 21, was charged with Criminal Sex Act in the 1st Degree, a Class B felony following an investigation. Smith was arraigned in Utica City Court on September 8, 2012 and remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000.00 cash bail.
The investigation into the sexual assault continues.  Smith's case has been turned over to the District Attorney's Office for Grand Jury action.

The victim has been offered counseling through the Child Advocacy Center.
