Unruly suspect attacks, bites police officers

NORTH LAWRENCE – Police in Nassau County report an arrest for assault on police officers on Thursday, September 6, at 7:35 P.M. in North Lawrence.

According to detectives, George Towns, 27, of 134 59th Street, Jamaica, was walking south on Lawrence Avenue yelling and cursing causing neighbors to be alarmed.  As officers attempted to arrest the defendant he fought with them causing himself and the officers to fall to the ground.  As the defendant was being placed in the rear of a patrol car he kicked and shoved the officers.  As a result of the struggle, two officers suffered minor injuries.  One officer suffered a sprained wrist, a shoulder and neck injury and was bitten on the hand.  The other officer suffered a sprained wrist, sprained shoulder and minor injuries to his arm and leg.

Towns is charged with two counts of assault 2nd degree, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.  He was arraigned on Friday, September 07, 2012 at First District Court in Hempstead.
