Upstate man sentenced to prison for Leandra’s Law offence

ALBANY – A Schenectady, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in State Prison for driving while drunk, with children in the car.  Lewis Decker Jr, 33, previously pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated dwi, and one count of aggravated unlicensed operator of a motor vehicle in the 1st degree.  Both offences are felonies

On June 9, state police responded to a call that Decker was driving in an intoxicated manner while on the highway with two children in the car. When police approached Decker, he showed visible signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages.

“You’re going to end up killing yourself or some poor citizen”, commented Judge Joseph Teresi before imposing sentence in Albany County Court Tuesday morning.  .

Decker will also be required to pay $1500 in fines as well as court surcharges and fees.  In addition, DECKER will have an Ignition Interlock device installed for a period of 3 years following his release.
