Nearly 3,500 New Yorkers use new online voter registration website

ALBANY - 3,474 New Yorkers – including 1,028 first-time voters – have used the Department of Motor Vehicle’s new online voter registration service.

The initiative, announced August 16, streamlines DMV services by allowing New Yorkers -- for the first time ever -- to apply to register to vote, or update their address or party enrollment, through a secure online site. To date, 3,474 New Yorkers have used the online system to register to vote or to change their address or party enrollment.

"This new initiative is breaking down barriers that have for decades kept New Yorkers from having a voice in their government," Governor Andrew Cuomo said. "I encourage all New Yorkers who are eligible to vote but have not registered to head to the DMV website and take the this critical step to participating in our great democracy. We will continue the work of bringing state government in to the 21st century and transforming the way the state provides critical services so government can truly work for the people."

The Web site can be found at https://my.dmv.ny.gov/crm/ and can be used by any New Yorker with a driver’s license, or non-driver ID.

New York is ranked 47th in the nation in voter registration, with less than 64% of eligible residents registered to vote.
