Volunteer firefighters charged with theft from department |

VOLNEY - State Police in Fulton have arrested and charged four subjects on Larceny charges who were recently affiliated with the Volney Volunteer Fire Corporation. The four subjects previously resigned from the fire department in February of this year after an internal investigation determined there was "inappropriate spending" involving these subjects. This internal investigation was turned over to the State Police Bureau of Investigation in Fulton which resulted in the following arrests:
The Weldins are accused of purchasing approximately $1,800 worth of building materials and supplies at Northern Concrete, charging them to the Fire Department Account, and utilizing them for their personal benefit. Edward Weldin is additionally charged for exceeding his fuel allowance by approximately $2,200 over a three year period (09-11)while he was a 1st Asst. Fire Chief, and while he was the Fire Chief.
Loomis is accused of exceeding his fuel allowance by approximately $4,500 over a three year period (09-11) while he was a 1st Asst. Fire Chief, and while he was the Fire Chief.
Frawley is accused of taking approximately $6,340 in cash over a two year period ('10-'11) from the Fire Department's main bank account for his personal use, while he held the position of Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Fire Department. All subjects were Released on their own Recognizance and scheduled for future court dates in the Town of Volney Court and City of Fulton Court. |
