Riverkeeper says county execs should not sign off on new TZ Bridge yet

TARRYTOWN – Hudson Riverkeeper Paul Gallay is urging the three county executives on the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council not to vote in favor of building the new Tappan Zee Bridge until they get answers to specific unanswered questions.

On Thursday, Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino, Rockland Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef and Putnam Executive MaryEllen Odell said they would vote for the bridge at the new transportation council session, which would pave the way for the state to apply for federal loans to help pay for the $5 billion project after talks with Governor Cuomo.

But, on Friday, Gallay said the three officials, who previously said they would not vote for the bridge plan without details, should keep the heat on Albany.

“They should stick to their guns and demand details about how the bridge will be financed, how much tolls will increase, how mass transit will be provided for and whether construction would impermissibly impact the Hudson River,” he said.

Gallay said the public needs to know all the details before the county executives vote for the plan.
