House explodes, toddler killed, parents, others injured

BRENTWOOD - Suffolk County Police continue the investigation of a house explosion that killed an 18-month-old boy and injured six adults, three seriously.

Suffolk County police officers and fire department and ambulance personnel responded to 12 Prospect Drive in Brentwood after multiple 911 callers reported an explosion at 11:55 a.m.  First responders removed seven people, six adults and one toddler, from the home and they were transported to local hospitals. Four of the adults and the toddler lived in the home and two of the adults were workers.

Rah-quan Palmer has been identified as the toddler that was killed in a home explosion in Brentwood this morning.  His mother, Christina Morgan, 23, and his father, Rashamel Palmer, 28, were also injured in the blast along with two other residents of 12 Prospect Drive, Calvin Harris, 23, and Irving Justiniano, 63.

Michael Ray, a plumber with Your Town Cesspool Plumbing & Heating, located at 125 Carleton Ave., Central Islip, and Patricia Salegna-Maqueda, a representative from State Farm Insurance, were seriously injured.  Ray, 48, of Islip, and Salegna-Maqueda, 46, of North Babylon, were at the home regarding a claim submitted for flooding at the residence.

Patricia Arnoth, 47, of 14 Prospect Drive, Brentwood, was injured as a result of the explosion.  She was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released.  Her son, Michael Arnoth, 24, also of 14 Prospect Drive, was injured in the aftermath and was treated at a local hospital and released.

Seven Suffolk County Police officers and two firefighters were injured, treated at local hospitals, and released.

Two residences adjacent to the home that exploded, 14 Prospect Drive, and 30 Prospect Drive, were condemned as a result of the blast.

The home was destroyed in the explosion and no determination on the cause of the explosion has been made.
