Arrest made in fatal motor vehicle collision

HERKIMER - State Police have arrested Daniel Conklin, 24, of Rochester, following an indictment by the Herkimer County Grand Jury. The indictment involved a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of State Route 5 and Paratore Rd. in the town of Schuyler, Herkimer County on May 24, 2012, following a police pursuit that originated in the village of Herkimer. The collision took the life of Gail Pietruska of Frankfort, NY. Conklin was arraigned in Herkimer County Court on the following charges:

Manslaughter 2nd Degree – Class C Felony

  • Assault 2nd – Class D Felony
  • Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer 1st & 2nd Degrees – Class D & E Felonies
  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd
  • Reckless Driving
  • Numerous additional Vehicle & Traffic Law Violations

Conklin was subsequently remanded to the Herkimer County Jail without bail.

The arrest was a result of a lengthy joint investigation conducted by the New York State Police BCI , the Village of Herkimer Police Department, & the Herkimer County District Attorney’s Office.
