TOWN OF STANFORD – A Stanford man was killed when his car crashed into a pond on Shuman Road in the Town of Stanford early Sunday morning, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.

Deputies found an unoccupied car and after a thorough search of the area, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office/City of Poughkeepsie Police Dive Team was deployed and the victim, Alexander Whitridge, 25, was found in the shallow water near the vehicle.

He was the sole occupant in the vehicle at the time of the incident, police said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation
