Teen charged with murder in death of four-year-old

NEW YORK - A grand jury in the Bronx indicted of Rondell Pinkerton, 19, on charges of murder and other offenses in connection with a gun battle in which a 4-year-old boy was killed and two other people were wounded.

The grand jury indicted Pinkerton, aka 'Spyder', on one count of murder in the second degree, one count of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of assault in the first degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Pinkerton is facing a maximum sentence of up to 25 years to life imprisonment if convicted of murder. Conviction on the charges of attempted murder and assault are both punishable by a maximum sentence of up to 25 years imprisonment.

Pinkerton is to be arraigned on the indictment in State Supreme Court, Part A on Monday, September 10, 2012.

The deadly shooting occurred on Sunday, July 22, 2012 on the grounds of the Forest Houses shortly after 9:30 in the evening. The deceased, Lloyd Morgan, 4, was in a playground area when he was struck in the head and killed when shots were fired.

Action by the grand jury is still pending regarding a second defendant, Ronald Jeffrey, 19, who has also been charged with murder in the child’s death. A third defendant, Courtney Kelly, 26, who was shot in the abdomen, has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Kelly remains hospitalized.
