Two brothers killed in Newburgh car crash

NEWBURGH – Two brothers from Newburgh were killed early Saturday morning when the car they were in struck a tree. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor.

City Police said their car was at Leroy and Forsyth Place at 5 a.m. when it left the roadway and struck a tree, hit a parked car and pushing that vehicle into a third one. Both parked cars were in a driveway on a home on Leroy Place. Debris struck a third car also parked in the driveway. Some debris was on fire and quickly extinguished by Newburgh Firefighters.

The vehicle was occupied by 26-year-old driver Jorge Alberto Ayala, 26, and his brother, Soniel Alberto Ayala, 18. There were no other occupants in the car.

Jorge Alberto Ayala was dead at the scene. Soniel Alberto Ayala was extricated by the city fire department and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police closed portions of Leroy Place to conduct the investigation. The speed limit on Leroy Place is 30 mph. Police said they did not know at this time if alcohol or drug were involved.
