Three arrested after suspicious packages show up at eight Hudson Valley hotels

FISHKILL – Three New York City residents arrested following investigation are under arrest after police investigated reports of suspicious packages being delivered to eight hotels in Dutchess County.

Each hotel had received a package delivered by UPS, addressed to Kevin Jones, a guest who had not yet arrived.  State Police bomb squad K-9s were called in and examination of the packages revealed they each contained a cell phone and charger.

During the continue investigation police received a call from a hotel in the Town of Fishkill reporting the three people had arrived to retrieve a package. They were detained, questioned at State Police barracks in Wappinger and later arrested after police determined the phones were proceeds from a fraudulent scam.

Charged with attempted criminal possession of stolen property and conspiracy, both misdemeanors, were Kevin Jones, 30, and Jessica Hairston, 25, both of the Bronx, and Muhammad A Matthews, 41, of Brooklyn.  They were released on appearance tickets returnable to Fishkill Town Court.

Also involved in the investigation were Fishkill Village and Poughkeepsie Town Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
