Meeting to focus on Route 17 transportation corridor study for Orange and Sullivan Counties

ALBANY - The Transportation Partnering Committee (TPC) together with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will be holding Public Workshop I to discuss the future of Route 17 in Sullivan and Orange counties. The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, August 1, 2012 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Orange-Ulster BOCES, Emmanuel Axelrod Building, 53 Gibson Road, Goshen, New York.

At this Public Workshop, participants will have the opportunity to help define the corridor vision, develop corridor transportation goals, and provide valuable feedback on transportation concepts to both the TPC and NYSDOT.

The TPC was formed three months ago to assist NYSDOT with the development of the transportation corridor study. The TPC is comprised of representatives from various municipalities and governmental agencies having a direct transportation responsibility along Route 17 in Orange and Sullivan counties.

The study will examine the Route 17 corridor between Monticello, Exit 105 (Route 42) and Harriman, Exit 131 (New York State Thruway) to help accommodate transportation demands brought about by economic growth in the region – and to help accommodate future growth. Over the next seven months, the TPC and NYSDOT will host two additional public workshops to assist in the development of the study and provide opportunity for public input before finalizing the study in the spring of 2013.
