Owners of Westchester gourmet food market charged with hiding millions from IRS

WHITE PLAINS – Nine owners of six gourmet food markets, including one in Westchester, have been indicted by a federal grand jury with conspiring to hide more than $56 million in gross receipts from federal and state tax authorities.

Among the stores from which the owners allegedly withheld the tax money was Zeytinia Gourmet in Croton-on-Hudson.  The other stores are in Manhattan, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The owners allegedly deposited credit card payments and a small portion of the cash receipts into company bank accounts, but diverted the remaining cash to be used to pay cash business expenses including payrolls. The remaining cash was pocketed by the market owners.

Those indicted were Adem Arici and his brother Cevdet Aricit, Omer Ipek, Erdal Kilic, Armagan Tanir, Atilla Yayla, Jody Vitale, Andrew Poma, and Josefina Caraballo.
