State Humane Society names new director

KINGSTON – Former Ulster County SPCA executive director Brian Shapiro has been named New York State director of the Humane Society of the United States.

Shapiro said he will continue his efforts to eradicate puppy mills, abuse and human-caused and natural disasters that impact animals.

The Woodstock resident, also a former Ulster County legislator, brings 25 years of personal and public animal advocacy to his new job. He will be responsible for building statewide support for animal protection, assisting animal shelters and working with local law enforcement agencies.
