One dead, one injured in Thruway crash

ALBANY - State Police investigated a one vehicle fatal collision that occurred on the State Thruway eastbound approaching exit 24. The occupants were attendees at the Camp Bisco Music Festival in Mariaville, NY.

Witnesses report the vehicle drifted from the center lane across the third lane and into the median where it struck a box guiderail end. The guiderail penetrated the vehicle fracturing the passenger's leg and killing the driver, The driver Alisha Makepeace, 26, was from Portland, Maine.  The passenger, David Melnick, 26, of New Hampshire, was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

Police are awaiting toxicology results to determine if drugs or alcohol may have contributed to the accident.
