Delta pulls Atlanta flights from Hudson Valley Airport

ATLANTA – Delta Air Lines, which operates daily non-stop flights at Stewart Airport near Newburgh to both Atlanta and Detroit, will suspend the Atlanta service effective September 1.

Both routes have been performing poorly this year, so “by focusing on the Newburgh-Detroit market we hope to make the service successful in the long term,” said Delta spokesman Trebor Banstetter.

He said from Detroit, Delta operates a large hub which provides connecting service to some 140 destinations worldwide on more than 550 daily flights.

Stewart Airport Commission Chairman James Wright said the decision is unfortunate given the fact that they are adding service at JFK and LaGuardia airports, sister airports to Stewart, all operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
