IP2 automatically shuts down

BUCHANAN – The Indian Point nuclear power plant unit 2 automatically shut down around 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Workers are investigating the main electrical generator as a probable cause of the shutdown.

The generator is located on the non-nuclear side of the plant. Entergy officials said there was no release of radioactivity and equipment performed normally during the shutdown.

Unit 3 continues to operate at full power.
