NYC woman dead in Thruway crash

COXSACKIE - A single vehicle accident on the Thruway late Tuesday night claimed the life of a New York City woman and sent her four young occupants to Albany Medical Center.

Russhelle Thompson, 34, was northbound on I-87 near mile post marker 122.4 in the Town of Coxsackie, Greene County around 11:04 PM Tuesday night when the passenger side rear tire of the SUV blew out.  The vehicle spun and left the northbound lanes into the center median where it struck the guiderail and became airborne.  The vehicle continued across both south bound lanes and came to rest upside down against the bank off the west shoulder.

During the roll over, a 12 year old female was ejected and is currently listed in critical condition in the pediatric ICU at Albany Medical Center suffering from internal injuries.  The remaining occupants, between the ages of 12 and 21 are all currently in Albany Medical Center being treated for non-life threatening injuries ranging from contusions to a slight fracture in the neck.
