Toddler drowns in backyard pool

EAST ISLIP - Suffolk County Police are investigating the death of an East Islip toddler who drowned in a pool Wednesday afternoon.

Third Precinct officers were called to 26 Laurel Ave., at 12:39 p.m., after Byron McArthur, 21-months old, was discovered by a family member at the bottom of a backyard swimming pool. When police arrived, the child’s mother was administering CPR to the boy.   McArthur was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The boy apparently entered the above-ground pool by climbing a ladder.

The investigation is continuing.
